Gorillaz Got The Cure's Robert Smith For Some "Strange Timez"

Gorillaz Got The Cure’s Robert Smith For Some “Strange Timez”

The latest installment in the Gorillaz’s “Song Machine” series comes with a big announcement.

Over the course of the year the Gorillaz have been releasing music with a variety of different collaborators as part of their Song Machine audiovisual series. So far, the animated band of misfits have shared five tracks, including “Momentary Bliss” with slowthai and “Pac-Man,” featuring ScHoolboy Q. Now, alongside their sixth addition to the series, they’re finally ready to announce what this has all been leading up to: Song Machine: Season 1 – Strange Timez, a collection of 11 tracks (17 on the deluxe edition) that feature up-and-coming artists right next to legendary musicians. The title track for the series, their sixth release, “Strange Timez,” certainly falls into the latter category as it features The Cure‘s Robert Smith. The song is certainly, well strange, but that’s par for the course when you’re dealing with Damon Albarn— or should I say 2-D, Murdoc, Noodles and Russel.

The audiovisual “album” will drop on October 23rd and in support of the release, Gorillaz have announced Song Machine Live. Taking place over two days, December 12th and 13th, the event promises a unique blend of visuals and a live Gorillaz performance featuring tracks from Song Machine: Season 1 – Strange Timez live for the first time. Harry Nathan Delivers Some Disco Groove With New Song "Frontin' Me"

Harry Nathan Delivers Some Disco Groove With New Song “Frontin’ Me”

“Frontin’ Me” is a late-night, dimly lit, groove.

Kitsuné Musique’s newest release is down and dirty jam from Harry Nathan. We’ve heard Harry before on “Alright” and “Sweet Release” but his newest single, the groovy “Frontin’ Me,” features some of the most dance-driven music we’ve seen from him. It’s perfect for a late-night drive filled with city lights and, with a touch of the psychedelic, “Frontin’ Me” is sure to stay on repeat.

Nathan also had quite a bit to say about the song and the making of the track:

“The song was recorded into a 1984 SONY M-10 microcassette recorder. I wasn’t really sure what I was singing, I was just jamming and mumbling, stream of consciousness kind of thing. When entering this kind of trance, my lyrics tend to reflect unsurfaced emotions, and it wasn’t until after I had finished recording that I realised the song was about people that are fake, putting up a façade trying to impress all the time.”

“Frontin’ Me” also comes with a visual that features an appearance from Nathan’s frequent collaborator, actress Odeya Rush from Ladybird, as well as some of his other close friends. He spoke on the making of the video as well:

“We made the video with our mates, actors Odeya Rush, Ryan Lee and Christian Valderrama at my place in L.A. The original idea was for me to perform the song live, though it quickly evolved on the fly to me being on an ambiguous red carpet, being interviewed by Tammy. I entered a trance that took me back to my fourth-grade sleepover.”

REI AMI Breaks Free On Edgy New Song "RUNAWAY"

REI AMI Breaks Free On Edgy New Song “RUNAWAY”

REI AMI does it again with her edgy new song.

With only four songs, REI AMI may still be a new name but it’s one that you’ll be hearing more and more of in the months to come. I introduced her back in August with the fiery “MAKE IT MINE” before she subsequently took over the world with “DICTATOR” and “SNOWCONE.” Now, she’s back again with the banging and booming “RUNAWAY.”

The track finds REI delivering sultry whispers over a claustrophobic, ear-ringing booming bass and drums. It’s her first track that doesn’t cut out halfway through and turn into a dream-pop bop and she kills it up until the weeping strings take over at the end, keeping our heart rates up and blood pumping the whole time she’s present.

Along with the release, REI gave a telling interview with i-D Magazine in which she spoke a bit about the song and got emotional while describing her upbringing.

When speaking on “RUNAWAY,” Rei said “I’ve been sitting on it for six or seven months now. It’s fearless, very ‘shut the fuck up, I call the shots and you listen’. The production and my vocals are much more elevated and cinematic, almost,” she says. “I’m really excited to show this side of myself.”

Later in the interview, she talks about her religious childhood: “In a religious household you can’t be yourself, you can’t think or feel the way you want to because you’re told it’s a sin or that God hates you, and that takes a serious mental toll. Especially when the one thing that brings you comfort and peace and joy is going to put you in hell. Finally I can be myself and say what I’ve always wanted to say, that’s freedom.”

Listen To The New James Bond Theme Song From Billie Eilish, “No Time To Die”

Fresh off her Grammy’s sweep, Billie shares the emotional new track.

James Bond theme song’s are no joking matter. There’s a lot of hype built around each one and in previous years we’ve seen big names like Adele and Sam Smith hold the honors. This time around the film series seems to have found its perfect match with the record breaking newcomer.

At just 18 Billie Eilish is the youngest artist to ever record a James Bond theme and her submission, “No Time To Die,” seems to be the most fitting track for the film that we’ve seen in a while. “No Time To Die” slowly builds to a burning crisp, holding inside all of the drama that a Bond movie conveys in just four minutes. Gorillaz Announce New Musical Cartoon Series "Song Machine"

Gorillaz Share New Song “Momentary Bliss” With slowthai & Slaves

The first proper new music from Gorillaz since 2018’s The Now, Now.

Last week Gorillaz announced their new series Song Machine and now we’ve got a little more details and a new song. “Momentary Bliss,” featuring slowthai and punk band Slaves, is the first track from Gorillaz new series. Song Machine videos will feature studio footage, interviews with the band’s collaborators, and chats with the cartoon members and each episode will come with a new song.

Song Machine is a whole new way of doing what we do,” said Gorillaz drummer Russel in a statement. “Gorillaz breaking the mould ’cos the mould got old. World is moving faster than a supercharged particle, so we’ve gotta stay ready to drop. We don’t even know who’s stepping through the studio next. Song Machine feeds on the unknown, runs on pure chaos. So whatever the hell’s coming, we’re primed and ready to produce like there’s no tomorrow. Y’know, just in case….”

Next up, Gorillaz are teasing a collaboration with Tame Impala.

Doja Cat Drops New Banger "Boss Bitch" With Flashy Music Video

Doja Cat Drops New Banger “Boss Bitch” With Flashy Music Video

From the Birds of Prey soundtrack.

The new Harley Quinn spinoff movie starring Margot Robbie is already making some noise. That noise is coming in the form of Doja Cat‘s dance-driven new single “Boss Bitch.” The track features the up-and-coming LA rapper doing her thing over a super bass-heavy instrumentation that sounds heavily inspired by the always insane Azealia Banks. The video matches the crazy party atmosphere the song creates and interlaces clips of Margot Robbie from in Birds of Prey with Doja blowing things up and being her sexy self.

After becoming a viral sensation with her hit “Mooo!,” Doja Cat became one of the hottest new faces in the game and dropped her debut album Hot Pink featuring the incredible single “Rules.”

The New York musician blew up last year with his song “Go Fuck Yourself” as well as the release of his debut album A 20 Something FuckHe went through a bit of a tough time, struggling with mental health issues– something he has been very public about— but seems to be back in full force and ready to start his next album cycle.

Rising Duo FARR Release Breathtaking New Song "Heal Me"

Rising Duo FARR Release Breathtaking New Song “Heal Me”

The pair also announced their debut album Weightless will be out March 27th.

FARR are finally ready to share their debut album. We’ve got an official release date now and with it comes the longing new track “Heal Me.” The duo, made up of LA’s Roméo and London’s Linden Jay, deliver flawless jams, like “Blades,” “Reversible” and “Paranoid,” without a need to ever be in the country.

RELATED: FARR Show Their True Colors On New Song “Technicolour”

Roméo had a bit to say about the track as well: “We’re so excited for this track to be out. I originally wrote this one with Carl Barat and Olly Burden during the same trip to London that I met Linden on. We had written our first single ”Down” a few weeks earlier. After a big night out I dragged myself to the studio across London and wrote the song between cold sweats. This was my longest and first trip alone to another country and felt pretty alone in London, so we ended up with this visceral love song about when you’re away from someone you love for a long time. We’ve been waiting for this one to come out for such a long time and are so proud of the end product and hope all our fans love it just as much as we do.”

Okaywill Takes Us Back On Nostalgic New Song "10 Years Ago"

Okaywill Takes Us Back On Nostalgic New Song “10 Years Ago”

Okaywill delivers on this nostalgic new jam.

“10 Years Ago” shows off a new sound for Okaywill. The dreamy and melodic sounds you’re used to from the South Carolina producer still remain but the track features the heaviest drop we’ve ever seen from the up-and-comer. Like a beautiful blend between Louis The Child and Matt & Kim, “10 Years Ago” will have you stuck in your memories while the track is stuck on repeat.

Okaywill never fails to make magic with his music, his Falling For You EP is just a straight up great time and he’s come through big time over the past few months with singles like “Starfinder” and “Feeling Is Right.” Check out our interview if you want to learn a little more about the South Carolina producer and you can find “10 Years Ago” from Okaywill on our Tasty! Unlikely Duo of Denzel Curry & Glass Animals Team Up For New Song "Tokyo Drifting"

Unlikely Duo of Denzel Curry & Glass Animals Team Up For New Song “Tokyo Drifting”

The often genre-jumping rapper and indie outfit jammed together on this one.

Denzel Curry is a rapper known for breaking boundaries. Earlier this year he stopped by Australia’s Triple J and surprised everyone with his insane cover of Rage Against The Machine‘s “Bulls On Parade” and it seems the ZUU rapper has still got a few tricks up his sleeve. Curry teamed with British psych-rockers Glass Animals for their new song “Tokyo Drifting,” lending an intense verse about halfway through the 808-filled jam. If anything, the track shows an interesting change of pace for the “Gooey” group, which formerly seemed like an innocent Alt-j alternative. “Tokyo Drifting” is a bouncy, chant-inducing jam that makes me excited to see what’s next from Glass Animals. For now, you can find “Tokyo Drifting” from Glass Animals and Denzel Curry on our Tasty! Jams playlists.
