The 10 Best New Artists of 2019

The 10 Best New Artists of 2019

In alphabetical order…

Dijon

Dijon

Dijon delivered some of the most heart-wrenching and passionate music I’d heard all year. The LA-based musician just shared the teary “CRYBABY :*(” and has recently been collaborating with other artists taking featured spots on tracks by No Rome and Mulherin.

Easy Life

Easy_Life_01_03_190839-GRADED

I was fully on board the Easy Life train last year but now after a whole bunch of festivals and a string of North American tour dates for next year it seems it’s finally time for Easy Life to go worldwide. They’ve already announced an album for next year titled Junk Food and recently shared a lovely track with Arlo Parks.

Havelock

HAVELOCK1

With only a few songs under his belt Havelock has been quickly making a name for himself. The addictive and catchy feel his music provides has me falling in love with his sound– he’s letting off those “Pheromones.”

Kate Bollinger

Kate Bollinger is a special one. She may still be in school but her effortless sound has propelled her to the top of many playlists. She released her first music on SoundCloud in 2018 and closed off this year with a string of tour dates supporting Wild Nothing. Her “Talk About It” B-side made our Top 30 Songs of 2019 and her most recent track, “No Other Like You” is just as wonderful.

Check out our interview with Kate Bollinger.

Mk.gee

Flaunt_Mk.Gee_1

After his song “You” was added to Frank Ocean’s Blonded Radio Mk.gee was destined for success. He delivered only one track all year, in December of 2019: “Untitled.” That unnamed track was still wavy enough to get his name on this list and keep me excited about Mk.gee for 2020.

Ocean Heights

This New Jersey outfit is ready for the big stage. Ocean Heights unique and simply smooth songs are catchy and as repeatable as it gets. In 2019 they shared a string of snazzy tracks including their most recent release, the dreamy and emotional “Call.

After signing to Majestic Casual, South Carolina’s okaywill delivered the upbeat and feel-good EP Falling for YouHis sound is a fantastic blend of electronic, pop and indie rock and will be sure to put a smile on your face. His most recent track, “10 Years Ago,” is a nostalgic jam and the perfect tune to close out the decade.

Check out our interview with okaywill.

REI AMI

rei

When I first heard REI AMI I was shocked. Like Billie Eilish on crack REI AMI’s music is an incredible blend of heavy-hitting bass jams and dreamy bedroom pop– all in the same songs. Her most recent track “DICTATOR” found her topping off Spotify playlists and making waves on mainstream sites… Let’s just hope everyone remembers who first introduced her ;).

Check out our introduction to REI AMI.

Tim Atlas

When you hear that an artist was a former participant on NBC’s The Voice you don’t usually picture Tim Atlas. His unique blend of bedroom pop and love of pastel colors creates a warm and fuzzy vibe that just can’t be beat. He just shared a new project, Together Lonelyincluding the hit track “Tangerine,” whose video made it on our 10 Best Music Videos of 2019 list.

Tim Ayre

tim-ayre-2019

Australia’s Tim Ayre shared his five-track debut EP this year and each and every song on that project is a gem. Channeling some Kevin Parker vibes he comes through beautifully with his blend of psychedelic pop. His self-titled debut is only a fifteen minute listen and with tracks like “LAXX,” “Not Like It Should Be” and “Nothing,” it’s worth every second.

Listen To Tim Ayre's Dreamy Debut EP

Listen To Tim Ayre’s Dreamy Debut EP

The Australian musician shares his self-titled debut.

Tim Ayre is giving bedroom pop the Australian twist it needs. Like a blissful blend between The Beach Boys and Steve Lacy, Tim Ayre hits a wonderfully nostalgic tone in everything he touches. His self-titled debut features the previously released and certifiably Tasty! “LAXX,” “Not Like It Should Be” and “Nothing.” The EP, which was released on Kitsuné Musique, also holds two new jams, “Barcelona” and “Find You.” You can find both new jams from Tim Ayre on our Tasty! Jams playlists.

There's "Nothing" Tim Ayre Can Do Wrong On Dreamy New Song

There’s “Nothing” Tim Ayre Can Do Wrong On Dreamy New Song

The third release from the Australian musician’s upcoming EP.

It’s unreal to think that an artist’s first three songs would all be Tasty! Jams. But Tim Ayre managed to do just that. After initially sharing the incredibly smooth “LAXX” and the dreamy “Not Like It Should Be,” Tim Ayre has returned with the third single from his upcoming EP, the nostalgic “Nothing.” Ayre reminisces about a lost love but it doesn’t seem so down with the blissful bit of bedroom pop that he’s longingly singing over. Be on the lookout for Tim Ayre’s EP to be out on Kitsuné Musique in the coming months and you can find “Nothing” on our Tasty! Jams playlists.

The Tasty! Jams From June

The Tasty! Jams From June

What a jubilant month it was.

Last year June brought us one of the most amazing months of music we had ever seen. Kanye West released five albums, we got a new Gorillaz album, the long-awaited Jay-Z and Beyoncé collab album and plenty of other greats and, also, Drake (but we don’t need to talk about that). So, with that in mind, this time around I had some pretty high expectations for June and, somehow, the month did not disappoint. Kicking it right off Jai Paul returned from his seven year absence to release two killer new songs and put his unfinished and famously leaked album on streaming services. Then, Bon Iver made their return with two new tracks before Daphni (better known as Caribou) came through with his big comeback. So, to put it simply, we were off to a good start. The rest of the month was filled with releases. We got new albums from Jordan RakeiHot Chip, Freddie Gibbs and Madlib, Daniel Caesar, Yeasayer, The Black Keys, Two Door Cinema Club and the long-awaited album from Hayden James. In addition we got a whole lot of new EP’s from okaywill, Instupendo, Kate Bollinger, SG Lewis, Harry Nathan, Pat Lok, Manu Dia, Oli Hannaford, and Kid Fiction. Not to mention new post-humous releases from Mac Miller, some new tracks from Dominic Fike, Cuco‘s debut album announcement and so much more. Find some of my favorite jams from the past month below and everything from last month on our Tasty! Jams playlists.

Goldwash – “Set In Motion”

ayokay – “Things Fall Apart”

Ashe – “In Disguise”

Mindchatter – “Kerosene”

A real mixed bag of jams on this fine Friday.

What a day we have here today! Filled with new singles, EP’s, music videos, albums, and just all around good vibes as the first week of June comes to a close and the summer feels start to roll in. Dominic Fike came through with two new Tasty! Jams, sticking to his relaxed sound with cool, crisp drums and dreamy melodies. Yeasayer shared their new album Erotic Reruns with some incredibly fun jams like ’24-Hour Hateful Live!” and “Ecstatic Baby.”

Instupendo joined the party with his rather calming and tranquil EP, Boys by Girls, and Oliver Tree turned everything upside down with “Miracle Man” and the coinciding video in which Oliver engages in more of his always insane antics. Harry Nathan shared his new EP and the gorgeous jam “Blue Eyed Girl” and Tim Ayre channeled Kevin Parker and Tame Impala for his new single “LAXX.” Golden Vessel also delivered a new music video for “TONIGHT” in his classic DIY style, and we also got new Tasty!
