JVLY Comes Through With Some Smooth Lo-Fi Vibes On “monsoon”

JVLY delivers some smooth and soulful sounds with hint of funk.

Australian artist JVLY shared a pair of tranquil tracks last year that had me wanting more and now he’s delivered. The “tacenda” singer and producer came through with some serious soul today. Mixed and mastered by cln, “monsoon” is a lo-fi jam worth dancing to. It’s got vibes reminiscent of Still Woozy and overall sultry feel.

JVLY had a very specific vision in mind for this one, one that he spoke a bit about:

“I’ve had this concept in mind for a while, but I’d never written anything fitting enough for the mood I was trying to capture. I like the idea of how feeling kind of forlorn can be made to seem less heavy on you by hearing a song you connect with or relate to. So that was kind of the idea, I wanted to capture that gloomy feeling, but at the same time still create a mood that helps you to see that it’s probably going to be all good.”

JVLY Delivers Crisp New Single "me&her"

JVLY Delivers Crisp New Single “me&her”

Co-produced by DRKTMS.

The newest release form JVLY is the chillingly smooth new single “me&her” off Mammal Sounds Records. Following his last Tasty! Jam, “tacenda,” the Australian artist gives us a further look at his upcoming sophomore EP. Teaming with DRKTMS on the production side for this one, the song feels incredibly full and compelling. As light vinyl scratches ring consistently in the background throughout the track you’ll be carried out to sea on a lo-fi wave.

Speaking a bit about the creation of the song, JVLY said “I had just pretty much cut my arm off to get this amazing analogue synth and was fiddling with it when I came up with these sounds and this chord progression. Honestly, I wasn’t really trying to write a song at the time as I was just learning the ins and outs of designing sounds on this thing, and that’s when I hatched that pulsing synth that runs throughout the song.” And on his inspiration for the track he added, “I’ve been listening to a lot of dream-pop lately like Men I Trust so I’m really into rich sounding synths. I sent ‘me&her’ to my friend Luca (DRKTMS) who slowed the whole thing down to a much smoother tempo and added some really nice touches to the song. It was cool collaborating with him on the vocal ideas as well, bouncing ideas back and forth before finding a good blend of our own perspectives.”

JVLY Brought The Waves On "tacenda"

JVLY Brought The Waves On “tacenda”

Tacenda (n.) – things better left unsaid, matters passed over in silence.

Australian producer JVLY came through big time with this smooth new jam — giving us the first taste of his upcoming EP. The slow build at the start of the song sets JVLY up perfectly to come in with his longingly seductive vocals as the soundscape fills up. Speaking on “tacenda” JVLY said “This is the first song I finished for a new EP I’ve been writing called Wild Onsen Echoes. It’s always taken me a long time to finish songs, just dwelling on them even if things aren’t flowing or working out and I think that ends up being a pretty toxic way to create. You get tired of it before you finish and then it’s lost. Lately I’ve been writing a lot of new ideas and if it doesn’t come all that naturally I’m just leaving it to the side. It seems to turn out more organic that way.” Continuing on to say “‘tacenda’ is one of those songs that came together pretty painlessly. It means ‘things that are better left unsaid’. I find that building the music into an environment of sounds that trigger or inspire a single line or a story is the best way to write. I think it’s kind of backwards, but it works like that for me.”
